There are currently 120,531press retailers throughout Germany (per December 2008). Each retailer receives his newspapers and magazines exclusively from his local wholesaler.

A difference is made between the following business types:

• Sales outlet resembling a newspaper and magazine newsagent: 15,106 retailers

• Neighbouring stores: 35,872 retailers

• Food markets (including discounters): 19,600 retailers

• Large forms of the retail trade: 3,227 retailers

• Kiosks: 12,014 retailers (11.7 %)

• Petrol stations / motorway service areas: 13,615 retailers

• Specialist markets / department stores / miscellaneous: 21,097 retailers
